Empty World is a science fiction novel written by John Christopher aka Samuel Youd. He is the bloke who also wrote The Tripods series (Alex Proyas is adapting that one) and No Blade of Grass.
Young Neil Miller is orphaned following a car accident and goes to live with his grandparents in Winchelsea, England. Shortly afterwards, they hear radio reports of a new plague that started in Calcutta, India, which is starting to kill off all elderly people including his grandparents and now is killing people of all ages. Those who are infected age prematurely, dying after a few days. Soon the disease reaches England, and everyone Neil knows dies and realizes he has to grow up and take responsibility. so he takes a neighbour’s car and, driving as best he can, heads for London to look for other survivors.
The always excellent Quiet Earth have this gorgeous poster and the news that Lucas Howe will be directing the adaption. Should be one to watch out for.
