X-Men: First Class – Jane Goldman to write screenplay

Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, Stardust, Layer Cake) was recently announced as director of X-Men: First Class. Bryan Singer is producing it, but there had been no word on who was writing the screenplay for it.

Vaughn co-wrote the Kick-Ass and Stardust adaptions with Jane Goldman. She is married to Jonathan Ross (TV and Radio Presenter here in the UK and writer of the new Turf comic book that I really must pick up). Ross recently let us know whether his Goldman would be involved in the X-Men movie when he posted on Twitter

“The wife is away writing X Men 4.”

That’s all we know so far. The film is meant to be focusing on the early days of the X-Men including the relationship of Xavier and Magneto as their plans and ideals go off in wildly different directions.

I have enjoyed both Vaughn and Goldman’s work so it will be interesting to see what they do with the X-Men. I hope it is better than the third X-Men movie and I really hope that if they have to get Wolverine involved that it is done in a really clever way and he doesn’t steal the film from the rest of the team.

What mutants would you like to see in X-Men: First Class and is Jane Goldman the best person to write it?
