The Crow – Details on the reboot

It has been in development for a while now, but Stephen Norrington’s (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Blade, Death Machine) take on The Crow has been fleshed out a bit more. The script is finished and could start filming this year.

Norrington has been working on ilustrations with “Avatar” production designer Rob Stromberg. Apparently they are different to Alex Proyas’ approach with the original movie.

Edward Pressman, producer of the previous Crow movies, has been speaking to MTV about the new version. Looks as if they have an actor in mind and the setting will be a little different to the other films.

“[We've got an offer out] to a major actor and things are moving ahead very aggressively, with the aim of doing the film this year,”
“The setting is the southwest — the Mexico/Arizona area — and an urban [setting], Detroit or Pittsburgh or something like that. There are two locations that the film is set. Its initial platform is in the southwest and then it moves to the big city in the north, middle or eastern America, and then back.”

“The Crow itself is a creature in this movie — it’s not just a bird. It’s got a personality and a character. Not like Godzilla exactly, but it’s very different [and has] a more active role in the story.”

“Obviously it’s a different time and a different idea, but I think Stephen is a very talented fellow and I’m very excited to work with him,” said Pressman. “I think it’s a very different conception [than the original film]. After the first ‘Crow,’ there were so many other films that were inspired by it, by its look. Steve is an artist himself, and he’s created a very different visual idea.”

I am curious to see a new Crow movie. I loved the original starring Brandon Lee. However, I do have a few concerns. The first being Norrington himself. I love Blade, but The League is just a bad movie and I feel it gets worse with every single viewing (check out my review) so he has a lot to make up for. The other concern is that talk of the Crow itself being a more active part in the proceedings. I find it odd Pressman name checks Godzilla. Not sure about that at all.

Hopefully, we will see some of the concept art before too long and that will give us a better idea. Any thoughts on who the major actor could be? Will Sam Worthington be in yet another big movie?
