Guillermo del Toro recently stepped down from directing The Hobbit leaving a hobbit hole that needed filling.
News from theonering.net, via the excellent HeyUGuys, comes the rumour that Neill Blomkamp could possibly be stepping up to fill that hole.
Peter Jackson produced the excellent sci-fi film, District 9 that Blomkamp directed so they have a working relationship. Jackson has said that he doesn’t want to direct the Hobbit movie although MGM and Warner Bros want him to, but with Blomkamp doing it Jackson has someone he knows, and trusts to make it.
I hadn’t even thought of Blomkamp for the gig as District 9 was his first feature and he is still fairly new at the game. The Hobbit is a big movie to take on, but I think he would be quite good at it.
As I say this is all still just a rumour, but one that does make sense. Either way I just hope we get to see cameras role on The Hobbit sooner rather than later.
