Guillermo Del Toro has revealed at Comic-Con that he will be directing a live-action film based on Disney’s Haunted Mansion ride.
The official press release concerning the venture describes The Haunted Mansion as:
“A hallowed landmark in Disneyland’s New Orleans square, the dwelling place of 999 happy haunts dying to meet new visitors each day. The plantation-style of the mansion’s facade is a sweet deception for visitors. Inside, ghostly doom buggies line the hallways. Since its construction, the mysteries of the mansion have transcended the attraction with stories surfacing about horrifying encounters with the supernatural.”
Del Toro has said the film will be shot in 3D and remain true to the spirit, art and aesthetic of the original Mansion. Describing the attraction itself as a place where he would go when he needed time to think, relax and unwind; Del Toro even has a room in his own house decked out in the style of the ride. Its clear he feels an affinity for the Mansion, so no doubt fans will be eagerly awaiting his take on the mythology.
Having never been to any of the Disney Haunted Mansions, I’m off to Google “The Hatbox Ghost” - central character of Del Toro’s story…
…Crikey! He’s a bit of a number!
