What we know about Guillermo del Toro’s adaption of H P Lovecraft’s tale of madness and Shoggoths was brought together in my recent post on the subject which also had a brief review of the script – James Cameron is producing it, they’ll shoot in 3D and production will begin in May 2011.
Collider have now heard from various sources that Del Toro would like Tom Cruise to star in the film, but Universal would like James McAvoy. Chris Pine’s name has also been mentioned.
Cruise is about to begin work on Mission: Impossible 4 among other things and if he is in the adaption then it suddenly becomes a Tom Cruise movie. Not necessarily a bad thing and it would bring Lovecraft to the masses…maybe some the Old Ones have planned all along!
McAvoy is filming X-Men: First Class. Chris Pine is also very busy.
Still filming doesn’t begin until next year so any of them could get there. None of the names really strike me as being right for the film.
