Terry Gilliam previously tried to make The Man Who Killed Don Quixote with Johnny Depp a few years back. It was a disaster and they never finished it. The excellent documentary, Lost In La Mancha, shows the terrible luck he had.
The second attempt starring Ewan McGregor is also in a bit of a mess.
“The financing collapsed about a month and a half ago,” the director said Saturday at the Deauville American Film Festival reported Variety.
“I shouldn’t be here. The plan was to be shooting ‘Quixote’ right now.” However, he still has hope that it will be made. “Robert Duval is Quixote, Ewan McGregor is also there, and we are looking for new financing right now,” he said.
“Don Quixote gives me something to look forward to, always. Maybe the most frightening thing is to actually make the film.”
The Playlist have news on a couple of other projects including turning his classic film, The Time Bandits into 3D. I am assuming it will be a conversion and not a new film.
“I have two scenarios I think I can resurrect because they cost more than $ 100 million (laughs)!.”
“We are in discussions to make a 3D version of the film ‘[Time] Bandits.’ That will not change anything in the film itself will remain the same and if I think it serves as some passages in ‘Alice [In Wonderland'], the 3D should work well. Anyway, I’ll have fun with it!”
If the Don Quixote film ever gets made do you want to see it? Should Gilliam convert Time Bandits into 3D?
