Woman in Black – More people join Harry Potter in the Hammer adaption

Hammer Films are busy at work on The Woman in Black, the incredibly spooky ghost story by Susan Hill that has scared the bejeebers out of many people including myself.

Jane Goldman is writing the screenplay and Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe is already cast as the young lawyer, Arthur Kipps. He is now joined by Janet McTeer and Ciarán Hinds to the cast according to Deadline. James Watkins (Eden Lake) is directing.

The Woman in Black follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), who is ordered to travel to a remote village and sort out a recently deceased client’s papers. As he works alone in the client’s isolated house, Kipps begins to uncover tragic secrets, and his unease grows when he glimpses a mysterious woman dressed only in black.

Radcliffe’s character also has a son and he was talking to Total Film about it.

“We were doing auditions for my son yesterday which was bizarre. But it’s very exciting and [director] James Watkins is fantastic. He might kill me for telling you this, but he’s actually started working with an acting coach to give him a better idea of how to approach stuff with actors. Which is a brilliant thing – I don’t know of any other directors doing that. He’s inspired and we’re uncannily on the same page about the film. We met and we agreed that this film is not a scary movie but a film about loss and family and grief.”
