I just wanna get up to my shack and get drunk

UPDATE: Guillermo del Toro offered the Godzilla reboot?

UPDATE: It appears that Del Toro knows nothing about this and the mixing of Pacific Rim and Godzilla also appears to be incorrect.

HitFix had the news:

“I am not involved in ‘Godzilla’ at all,” Guillermo replied once I’d explained the rumor to him. “I haven’t read it or plan to read it. Nor have I been approached to direct it.”

That sounds pretty definitive to me. I’ve known Guilermo a long time, and he’s not the sort of guy to shy away from geeking out about this or that potential project. He’s a big monster fan, and I’m sure if he was thinking about taking on the King of the Monsters, he’d be happy to share some of that enthusiasm.

Instead, he tells me that he’s hard at work on “At The Mountains Of Madness” right now, and that “things are going incredibly well.”

END OF UPDATE

Guillermo del Toro has so many films and books on the go I doubt he would notice another one chucked into the mix.

Legendary Pictures are the studio who currently hold the rights to Godzilla. They have been planning a reboot due out in 2012. Things have been going slow on it.

They also own a script from Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans) titled Pacific Rim, which is “set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.”

Sounds cool. What they have done is mix Godzilla and Pacific Rim into one so expect Godzilla to fight other monsters.

In the news, Latino Review via Collider, the studio have offered the film to Guillermo del Toro to direct. This doesn’t mean he will take it, but could you imaging del Toro’s Godzilla?
