Oldboy remake is still on? Spielberg, Matthew Vaughn or Danny Boyle to direct

[ad#Google Adsense-2]

The last I heard about the Oldboy remake – before it was meant to be no more – was that Spieldberg and Will Smith were going to make it. Let that sink in if you hadn’t heard about it before. Will Smith in a Spielberg directed remake of Oldboy….How would that have worked?

Like a terrible zombie it appears that the remake is back on the cards as screenwriter Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend) has done a new draft of the script that Mandate Pictures loves.

Spielberg could be too busy to direct it as he has many other projects on the go – War Horse is currently filming, then he has Roboapocalypse to get stuck into.

If Spielberg can’t do it the studio want Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class) to do it and if Vaughn won’t do it then Danny Boyle is their third choice.

Out of the three Boyle is the one I’d pick for the remake, but I really don’t want a remake of Oldboy. The original is just so good that they should leave it there. Being Hollywood they’ll probably stick with the remake and who knows what will happen. No word if Will Smith is involved any more.

What are your thoughts on the Oldboy remake? Out of the three directors mentioned who would you pick?
