Johnny Depp is currently working on an adaptation of the old TV show Dark Shadows with Tim Burton. It looks as if he may be reviving another old show if current news is correct.
Disney is picking up two high-profile projects from the actor and his Infinitum Nihil production company according to THR.
The first is The Night Stalker, the 1970s TV movie-turned-TV series that ran on Disney-owned ABC about Carl Kolchak, a reporter who investigates mysterious crimes that have a supernatural or sci-fi bent. Darren McGavin originally played the character and I remember watching it as a kid and being spooked out by the vampire one.
There was an updated series a few years back which had Stuart Townsend as Kolchack. It was soon cancelled as it was not meant to be very good.
The other project is a telling of the historical story of the American Revolution hero Paul Revere and his 1775 midnight ride to warn the colonists of a British Invasion.
Depp is busy with Dark Shadows and then has The Lone Ranger with Disney as well as another Pirates movie. I am not sure when these films will fit into his schedule but of course just because his production company is involved does not mean Depp will be starring in the films.
I could see him as an updated Kolchak and his character in The Ninth Gate could be along those lines.
I know lots of people are asking why is Depp and Disney doing another Pirates movie. If you were involved in something that you loved doing, and Depp loves playing Captain Jack Sparrow, got paid a lot of money for doing it and filmed in lovely locations would you honestly turn down the chance to do it again?
