By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth it appears that the long in development Doctor Strange movie is getting ever closer to the screen.
The one time Sorcerer Supreme of Marvel comics has been a favourite of mine even though recent tales of the good Doctor have never been quite as trippy as the wonderful work of Steve Ditko.
Marvel Studios have done a great job making the fantastical world of Thor a cinematic reality I am sure they can do a great job with Doctor Strange.
Twitch has learned that Oppenheimer and Donnelly have now turned in their script and Marvel is pushing forward with the property. Marvel has drafted a short list of directors to approach on the title and is forwarding the current script to each to try and sign someone up to ‘oversee continued development’.
You can read that ‘continued development’ comment a couple ways. Either Marvel is basically happy with the draft that they have now but want to give the eventual director a chance to make their mark on it before considering things locked down or they are looking for a director who can also re-tool the script from the ground up. Either way, though, this is a sign that Marvel is committed to the character and are looking at Doctor Strange as a 2013 release. With word out now that Edgar Wright has also turned in his script for Ant-Man the superhero world is about to get a bit weirder.
For those of you who do not know about Doctor Strange here is a quick Wiki blast.
Doctor Strange was originally Dr. Stephen Strange, a world-renowned but selfish neurosurgeon who only cared about making money. Then a car accident damaged his hands, preventing him from practicing surgery. Depressed and scouring the world for a cure to his condition, Strange locates a hermit called the Ancient One in the Himalayas. The Ancient One refuses to help Strange because of his selfishness, but does sense a good side to Strange which he attempts to bring to the surface. He fails, but Strange’s goodness ignites when he discovers the Ancient One’s disciple, Baron Mordo, is attempting to kill him. After Strange selflessly attempts to thwart the Ancient One’s traitorous disciple, Baron Mordo (who would become one of Strange’s most enduring antagonists), he is taught the mystic arts.
