Last night the Apollo Cinema in Piccadilly London played host to an exclusive John Carter event where film producer Kevin Kurtz introduced the heritage of Edgar Rice Burrough’s John Carter of Mars and the story behind Andrew Stanton’s development of the upcoming movie. Unfortunately Andrew Stanton couldn’t be there but he did introduce 5 exclusive clips and the 3D Trailer.
The clips showed JC is shaping up to be an Epic space adventure, potentially on the scale of the Lord of The Rings, the character visualisation and live action / CGI mix looks awesome, this has gone from a maybe to a must see for me. As for the 3D trailer – well from my point of view I find 3D trailers always difficult as they don’t give you enough time to adjust your vision to that 3D “plain” – that said, knowing it was done post film (or “dimensionalised after filiming” as Sue Rowe said) it looked pretty good compared to most I’ve seen.
After the clips and trailer we were lucky enough to have a Q&A with Taylor Kitsch, Eamonn Butler (Animation Supervisor) and Sue Rowe (Visual Effects Supervisor) – that I was able to record so enjoy the videos below. In part 2 look out for Taylor Kitsch answering the question about the name change from “John Carter of Mars” to just “John Carter”
