Joe Carnahan talks about his Death Wish remake

With Joe Carnahan’s The Grey doing good work at the box office his next few projects are being looked at closely. He will start work on Killing Pablo next and he has been tweeting that he will also be working on a remake of the Charles Bronson classic Death Wish.

It turns he will be going back to the book by Brian Garfield for the remake instead of the Michael Winner film.

“Guys. I’m doing ‘Death Wish.’ But this version is a re-imagining of the book and set in present day Los Angeles. The L.A. of ‘Collateral.’ … It’s on buses, cabs, metro trains. I want to show an unseen version of L.A. L.A. on foot. Prowling. Hunting. The vast emptiness of downtown. … Refn did a phenomenal job shooting L.A [in Drive]. It took on a different dimension. That’s the key.”

Carnahan also said he is writing a role for Frank Grillo (The Grey, Warrior, Prison Break) although it is not clear if it is for the main role or not.

His description for the new version of Death Wish does sound good and I will definitely be keeping an eye on this one.
