This is a cracking trailer for Steve Carell’s new film.
As an asteroid nears Earth, a man finds himself alone after his wife leaves in a panic. He decides to take a road trip to reunite with his high school sweetheart. Accompanying him is a neighbor who inadvertently puts a wrench in his plan.
Written and directed by Lorene Scafaria (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) it also stars Keira Knightley, Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights), Adam Brody (The OC), Rob Corddry (Children’s Hospital), Rob Huebel (Human Giant), Gillian Jacobs (Community), Derek Luke (Antoine Fisher), Melanie Lynskey (Away We Go), T.J. Miller (Cloverfield), Patton Oswalt (Big Fan) and William Petersen (CSI).
The good news is that it is rated R so it could be a lot more than just a stupid comedy. Even from the trailer it appears to have a lot more depth than you would expect.
I still can’t shake the similarity it has with Don McKellar’s excellent Last Night (check out review of that one). I suppose that is because it is tackling similar subject matter, but Patton Oswalt’s character seems to be the same as Callum Keith Rennie’s.
The film is out on June 22.
The big question is will they go the solid way and have the world ending or will there be a last minute save?
