Mark this one up as a rumour at the moment, but a good one if true.
Insiders at Doctor Who have been speaking to the Express saying Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, War Horse) may be playing the new incarnation of the Master for the shows 50th Anniversary.
Cumberbatch has been linked to playing the role of the Doctor on a few occasions and the fact Steven Moffat is the show runner on Sherlock means there could be some legs in this one.
“It’s fitting that the Doctor comes face to face with his ultimate enemy, The Master, for the 50th anniversary and it’s felt Benedict is the perfect choice if schedules can work,” we’re told. “Fans will love the idea of the man who plays Sherlock Holmes taking on the Doctor’’.
Cumberbatch would make a brilliant Master and a good follow on from John Simm. Seeing Sherlock go up against Matt Smith’s Doctor would be just amazing.
Or course this could all be some clever misdirection on Moffat’s part.
How would you feel about Cumberbatch playing the Master?
