Iron Man 3 will be co-produced by a Chinese film company and partly filmed in China, Walt Disney Co recently announced, as Hollywood looks to rapidly expanding Asian market for funds.
Filming for the third movie in the billion-dollar franchise from Marvel Studios is set to begin late this spring in the United Stated. The glittering cast will include Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle.
On Monday Walt Disney, and Marvel announced that the film will be co-produced by DMG Entertainment, a Chinese film company. Although the amount of the investment was not disclosed, it has been confirmed that the film will be partly shot in China this summer.
“As the Chinese economy continues to grow rapidly and evolve, we are very excited to be” involved in China, Rob Steffens, general manager of operations and finance for Marvel Studios, said at the press conference.
As China continues to develop its studios and expand its skilled-work force, we are undoubtedly going to see more Chinese co-productions take shape in the near future.
The movie will have an investment of least 1 billion yuan ($158 million), DMG Chairman Peter Xiao told reporters in Beijing today.
Now let’s hope with deep-pocket investors like Marvel, Disney and DMG, comes quality story-telling, coupled with amazing visuals that leaves the viewers saying:
