A 394 Word Review Of MIB 3D – The One Where Size, And HEIGHT, Matter

Urgh. It sounds like Ridley’s done a Sunshine.

Specifically the last ten minutes, anyway.

Oh well. There’s always Men In Black 3D…… Plus I loved Sunshine.

Jokes aside, I was pleasantly surprised with this.

My Dad can’t stand Will Smith. I can sort of see why. I went off him myself for a year or so, until I read his thoughts on Django. Far from ditching it because of the racial element – which is meant to be potent – it was all about calendar clashes.

There he was, singing it’s praises, saying how good the script is. And that was enough for me.

I’m so fickle.

Now I know he doesn’t hate QT and Django, I’m back on Team Smith. And for the last ten/fifteen minutes at least, Dad will be too.

The reason?

June 16th, 1969. As soon as we get there, the film rockets. It even manages a cute twist, that had me smiling. I’m a sucker for a twist that makes you go back and review the previous films. This was a pleasant surprise as I didn’t see it coming.

Far from the tedious trailers, the finale at Cape Canaveral is brilliant. All set around the lunar landing launch – and it works a treat. Similar to Transformers 3, with the way they tweak footage there, the same fun is had here.

And it is fun.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Do I want a MIB4D? Yeah, I do, actually. Do I want more Brolin? Absolutely.

The 3D here is fun, too. You know the sort. Giant fish monsters staring out of the screen.

But crucially, the hyperbole from team Smith pre-launch… you know, about how Sonnenfeld gets 3D… it’s all true. The “Time Jump” sequence is sensational. All shot from above, looking down on the busy NY streets… Well, again, the trailer does it a disservice.

Get involved.

Mrs T walked in on Ethan and I t’other day watching MIB on Blu. (Looks great). I got THE LOOK. It’s a bit more violent than I remembered. This is on another planet, though. Jermaine Clement, (I’m not crying), is excellent. But he must impale and stab fifty people. A lot are Aliens, tbf, but be warned if you’re taking kiddies.

There’s fun to be had, here. Especially with Smith making jokes about black people stealing cars. Almost looking directly at camera when he does it, with a little wink face.

QT would be proud….
