James Gunn may direct Guardians of the Galaxy

Marvel’s cosmic movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, is on their list and things are steadily gathering steam.

According to THR, Marvel Studios would like James Gunn (Super, Slither, PG Porn) to take charge and direct the movie. Marvel is said to like Gunn’s sensibility and his ability to mix comedy elements with action and horror, a quality he shares with The Avengers director Joss Whedon, who, with his exclusive contract with Marvel, is now a major architect of the company’s expanding universe.

Peyton Reed (Bring It On, Yes Man) and Half Nelson helming team Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden are Marvel’s backup choices if Gunn doesn’t go for it.

I really hope Gunn does take the job and I love the fact Marvel are going for these left field choices. Both Slither and Super are great little movies and it would be fantastic to see what Gunn does with a big budget and the odd characters that make up the Guardians team – Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Drax, Groot and Gamorra.

The other possibility, if Gunn comes on board, and this is just my wishful thinking, is that Nathan Fillion may finally hit the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Here’s my thinking. Fillion has worked with Whedon on Buffy and Firefly. He also starred in Gunn’s Slither and Super. Therefore, with his history I could really see Fillion as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord.

Also while we are at it how about Michael Rooker as the voice of Rocket Raccoon?

We shall just have to wait and see.

If he takes the job would you be happy seeing James Gunn directing Guardians of the Galaxy?
