"Put the glasses on! Put 'em on!”

UPDATED: Next 2 Bond Films will tell one story

Skyfall is out in the UK and has been getting some great reviews. It is out in the US on IMAX from 8th November and on general release from 9th November.

Is it the best Bond yet?

There was a delay of a few years between Quantum of Solace and Skyfall due to the money problems with MGM. Now that things are back on track it looks as if they want to make sure they build on Skyfall.

Daniel Craig is going to be back as Bond and John Logan (Gladiator, Hugo, The Aviator, Rango, Coriolanus, Sweeney Todd, The Last Samurai and Any Given Sunday) has been hired to write the next couple of films with the plan to get them into production and start shooting at Pinewood Studios next year so Bond 24 can be out in the autumn of 2014.

Deadline had the news that the next two films will tell one story:

Logan pitched an original two-movie arc to Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson while they were shooting Skyfall, and that he has already begun writing the scripts. If plans work out, this would be the first Bond film with a storyline to be played out over multiple films, and it certainly makes it feasible that the pictures could be shot back-to-back.

There is no word on whether Sam Mendes will return to direct them and I do keep hearing Christopher Nolan’s name being mentioned. Personally I hope that Nolan does not get the gig as, having rewatched a few of his films lately I am finding his work disappointing and frustrating. It is as if they have the illusion of being great films, but when you pick at them they unravel into poorly edited tales with a cold heart.

The ending of Casino Royale did lead into the beginning of Quantum of Solace, but I imagine that the story line for the next two Bond films will be a bit more in depth.

It is exciting news, but I do wonder whether it will work. The story will have to be an epic to keep building over two films.

Do you think have a two part Bond adventure will work? Who should direct them?

UPDATE: Daniel Craig has spoken to FilmStarts and said he does not think the there will be a two part story.

I don’t know where that’s come from. It’s impossible to do a two parter … All we’re trying to do at the moment is get the next one sorted out, and that will standalone, and if I’m able I’ll do another one after that.

Thanks to Bleeding Cool for spotting that.

There is still no official word about whether or not it will be a story of two parts. We shall have to wait and see.
