Star Trek Into Darkness Official Synopsis

As usual we still do not know much about J J Abrams’ next film, Star Trek Into Darkness.

We know it stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve, Peter Weller, Noel Clarke and Benedict Cumberbatch.

We know that a trailer will be out soon and that the first 9 minutes will be shown at IMAX 3D screenings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

We now know the basics of the plot thanks to this official synopsis from Paramount Pictures, but we have still not been officially told the name of the bad guy. Is Benedict Cumberbatch playing Gary Mitchell, Khan or somebody else. Read the synopsis and see if you can figure it out?

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Going from the synopsis it sounds like it will be full of action and I for one cannot wait to see it.

“A one man weapon of mass destruction” does sound like it good be Gary Mitchell who ended up with God like powers in the original series. Plus Karl Urban mentioned the name in an interview a while back, but he is a bit of joker when it comes to things like that. I suppose the description could also work for Khan who was incredibly intelligent. I’m just not sure.

Who do you think it could be?

Star Trek Into Darkness is out in 3D and IMAX 3D on May 17, 2013.
