I know that many of us are hoping that the film rights to Spider-Man, X-Men and the Fantastic Four eventually end up back with Marvel Studios so we can see them crossover with The Avengers. Sadly, it is not going to be anytime soon as the various studios that hold the rights to them keep making movies featuring the characters.
However, let us be optimistic and hope we finally get a decent Fantastic Four movie.
The fact that Chronicle’s Josh Trank is directing the new version for 20th Century Fox does fill me with some hope. Chronicle was a great movie and what Trank did with a low budget is incredible.
Can he do the same for Marvel’s First Family?
The potential and scope for a film following the exploits of Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm is truly incredible. They should be mind bending adventures into strange dimensions, yet previous films have been rather mundane and the vast intellect of Mr Fantastic has yet to be shown. Plus a cloud like Galactus was a bit rubbish.
It appears we will be able to see the new film on 6th March 2015 as Exhibitor Relations tweeted the news.
Reboot City. Fox’s new FANTASTIC FOUR will hit theaters 3/6/15. Josh Trank (CHRONICLE) directs.

The script is written by Michael Green and Jeremy Slater and I do hope that Mark Millar, who is creative consultant on the studio’s upcoming projects based on Marvel Comics properties, makes sure there are some links between X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Wolverine and the Fantastic Four.
This is what Millar has said about the new role with 20th Century Fox (note that this was before Matthew Vaughn left the new X-Men film, Bryan Singer is now directing that one).
“As someone who has spent his entire life obsessed with both comic-books and movies, this is essentially my dream gig as it’s a unique combination of both. I spent ten years working at Marvel and am really happy with the work I did on the comic side of things so the idea of working with these characters now in a brand new medium is enormously exciting for me. I really like the Fox team, love this bold new direction they have for their franchises and am proud to be working alongside some of modern cinema’s biggest talents. James Mangold is incredible, Matthew Vaughn’s one of my closest pals and Josh Trank gave us, in my opinion, one of the greatest superhero movies of the last decade with Chronicle. The invitation to join this crew was maybe the coolest phone-call I’ve ever had.”
The Wolverine is out on July 26, 2013. X-Men: Days of Future Past will be with us on July 18th, 2014.
The big question is who would you like to see play Mr Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, The Thing and the Human Torch?
