New Star Trek Into Darkness photo shows a captured Benedict Cumberbatch

A new image from J J Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness has been released. It shows Spock (Zachary Quinto) and Kirk (Chris Pine) looking or talking to Benedict Cumberbatch who appears to be in a cell / brig.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Judging by their surroundings it appears to answer the question of whose hands were shown in the trailer (see the image below)

UPDATE: Apparently Benedict’s character is called John Harrison. I think this is another red herring from J J Abrams. The name does happen to have the same amount of letters as Gary Mitchell.

I do hope this is not another ploy by the bad guy to be captured so they can then get up to mischief. I am looking at The Avengers and Skyfall for films when this has recently happened.

Star Trek Into Darkness will hit theatres on May 17, 2013.
