UPDATED: Could David Lynch be making a new Twin Peaks series?

I so want this to be true.

Rumour has it that David Lynch has been in talks with NBC to get a third series of Twin Peaks on the go. Spoilers ahead.

It is very much a rumour, but the souce, via High Snobiety, says that the third series would be set now, with the same amount of time passing since season 2.

The anonymous source said the plot could follow a female reporter investigating Twin Peaks and trying to find a reason why Agent Dale Cooper went kill crazy after the events of season 2. The real Dale Cooper would still be trapped in the Black Lodge.

Lynch would also like to have the original cast involved.

As I say, this is all rumour which started because of this post (click on the image below for a bigger version)

It would be so good if this could happen, but I think it is probably just wishful thinking on the part of the person who posted that.

UPDATE 1: Ah, too good to be true. Movieline (via /Film) spotted that Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost debunked the rumour over on Twitter:

The Daily Beast’s Jace Lacob tweeted the news that he had spoken to Mark Frost and confirmed there was no talk with NBC about a new series.

A damn shame.

UPDATE 2: 07/01/13 – Although things have not changed it does appear that this rumour may have got the folks at NBC to look into the possibility of reviving Twin Peaks.

Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment was on hand at today’s TCA (Television Critics Association) tour had this to say about the whole thing, via IGN.

“I called everybody when I got the email,” she said. “None of us had gotten a call about that, not from an agent, not from the writer, not the head of drama… so we’re wondering the same thing you are.”

“When it came up we all looked at each other and said, ‘That’s a good idea.’ We were all kind of like, ‘Hmm, we like Twin Peaks!’ So, I’ll send some emails today, and see what I can get to come in.”

Would you like more Twin Peaks?
