For those of you outside the UK and below a certain age this photo and the name Frank Sidebottom may leave you feeling a little perplexed.
Needless to say there was a singer in the UK, the late Chris Sievey, who used to perform while wearing a paper-mache head similar to the one in the photo.
The film, called Frank, is written by Jon Ronson with Peter Straughan and tells of a musician who joins a band led by Fassbender’s mysterious title character.
Bleeding Cool had the photo which shows Fassbender in the mask flanked by Maggie Gyllenhaal and Domnhall Gleeson.
The film also stars Scoot McNairy, Carla Aza, and Francois Civil.
Note that this isn’t a biopic film about Frank Sidebottom. It is just based on Jon Ronson’s memoir. Ronson said it “is loosely based on Frank Sidebottom, the persona of cult musician and comedy legend Chris Sievey, as well as outsider musicians like Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart.”
I am sure the lead singer of the band I used to be in had some sort of connection with Frank Sidebottom. I must get in touch with him to see what that was all about.
