Sci-Fi version of The Odyssey gets a scriptwriter. Will it include a small robot?

Starship_OdysseyWay, way back in 2008 when Live for Films was just a fresh faced movie site I posted the news that Warner Bros were planning to do a science fiction version of The Odyssey.

As I mentioned then, this was done before in the old cartoon, Ulysses 31. That always opened with the following:

It is the 31st century, Ulysses killed the giant Cyclops when he rescued the children and his son Telemachus. But the ancient Gods of Olympus are angry and threaten a terrible revenge…

Deadline now have an update on the film. Warner Bros have hired James DiLapo to write the script. They say the story is an exclusive and I can only assume the exclusive part is that they know who the writer is.

Back in 2008 it was rumoured that Brad Pitt was going to star and George Miller (Mad Max, Happy Feet) would direct. Obviously, that may no happen as it appears Warner Bros have gone back to the drawing board with this one.

It will be interesting to see what they do with a sci-fi version of Odysseus and the many adventures he has to get home. Will Ulysses 31 be an influence – maybe have the cool Starship Odyssey and that gun / sword / shield thing he used?

Let’s now rock out with the cartoon’s theme tune.

Ulysses, Ulysses, soaring through all the galaxies, in search of Earth, flying into the night!
Ulysses, Ulysses, fighting evil and tyranny with all his heart and with all of his might!
Ulysseee-eee-eees, no-one else can do the things you do!
Ulysseee-eee-eees, like a bolt of thunder from the blue!
Ulysseee-eee-eees, always fighting all the evil forces, bringing peace and justice to all!
