Peter Dinklage

UPDATE: you can see the original post below we’re I wondered if Dinklage would be playing Puck. Turns out this is not the case as Variety say he will be the main antagonist. Who could that be? I am not sure if Dinklage’s size will come into it. Could he be Mr Sinister, Apocalypse or maybe Bolivar Trask, creator of the Sentinels. Who do you think he will play?

There have been lots of updates on the cast for Bryan Singer’s adaptation of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Ellen Page, Anna Paquin and more will be returning.

There will also be new characters and Singer recently tweeted the news that Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) will be playing one of them.

He doesn’t say who Dinklage will be playing, but the guess would be Puck from Alpha Flight. This is a Canada’s own super team and Puck was a very cool character back in the day.

Eugene Milton Judd aka Puck had a bit of a weird origin. John Byrne originally wrote him as a dwarf with no superhuman powers, but was a great gymnast and fighter. This was later changed to Puck being possessed by a demon. More over on the wiki page, but here is a bit more on the character.

Originally, Puck had no superhuman powers, relying on his exceptional training. He was a formidable hand-to-hand combatant, capable of a mixture of various martial arts, street-fighting techniques, acrobatics and gymnastics. After a run-in with The Master of the World his body was subject to genetic manipulation of his cellular structure. His body tissues were condensed at a molecular level, causing his body to become akin to compressed rubber.
His trademark attack is a cartwheeling motion. Spinning on his hands and feet at great speeds, he is able to slam into and knock down human-sized enemies with ease. He is also skilled in bullfighting.
He has some knowledge of mysticism, enough to once trap Black Raazer, and the ability to put himself in a temporary death-like trance state.
Puck is about half the size of the average man. His condition causes him varying amounts of constant pain.
Also, his aging has been stopped or vastly slowed; Judd resembles a man in his thirties.

Puck

Of course it may not be Puck he will be playing, but I am not sure who else it could be.

Bryan Singer has also been talking about the film. It turns out that Richard Nixon will be in it and the use of CGI in the film.

Part of it takes place in the 1970s. And Richard Nixon’s in it, that’ll be an interesting casting choice… There’ll also be some more science-fiction-type aspects to the story and, without giving it away, some technology that we haven’t seen yet in the X-Men universe.”

“A CG Nick Hoult or a CG Ewan McGregor, maybe 20 years from now might be perfect, but it’s a little tough on the eyes when it’s not real. I definitely want to use this technology again, and I might even be using some of it in a different way in X-Men. I don’t want to say how, yet, but I’m definitely using some of this technology on X-Men, which I never used in any of the other X-Men films.

I assume the Sentinels will be CGI in the film, but could Nightcrawler possibly be back as a CGI creation?

Dinklage is a great actor so I am pleased to see him join the cast. My main worry is that this film is going to be overloaded with characters. Add that to the time travel story and it could end up being rather messy.

We shall have to wait and see.

X-Men: Days of Future Past opens July 18, 2014.
