Whether you want a new version of Oldboy or not, here is the trailer for Spike Lee’s film.
Don’t forget that they have gone back to the original manga for this version. Having not read the manga I cannot comment on the differences, but I have been informed there is much more to the comic book version. This means there is a chance the new version has quite substantial differences.
An advertising executive is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his punishment, only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.
The new trailer shows the set up and some of the scenes once Josh Brolin is released.
It does seem different from Park Chan-wook’s 2003 film in that we see his daughter now and he is also looking for her with the help of Elizabeth Olsen.
The film looks stylish and very violent. It appears they have kept the corridor fight scene which was so effective in the previous film.
Considering the 2003 film is a classic and the thought of an Americanised version has been greeted with horror by many, I can honestly say that the trailer looks good. I am beginning to look forward to seeing the final film.
