Bad Robot

“Men are erased and reborn.”

Any ideas what this new teaser trailer from J J Abrams’ Bad Robot is actually teasing?

It features a Stranger (who appears to have been tied up at some point) washing up on shore while a Narrator talks about him. Then there is the man with the stitched up mouth (I feel that I should know what that is from). All very strange.

Is the narration from a previous work?

Abrams has got Star Trek and Star Wars under his belt, but it does not look like it is for either of those. Could it be something Frankensteiny?

Is it for a new film, TV show or something else.

Any ideas?

UPDATE: Thanks to Rob for sharing the news that this is probably for a book that J J Abrams has written with Doug Dorst called S. Publisher Mulholland Books describe it as follows:

In his first-ever idea for a novel, Abrams conceived of and developed a multi-layered literary puzzle of love and adventure. At its core, we have a book of mysterious provenance. In the margins, another tale unfolds: hand-scribbled notes, questions, and confrontations between two readers. Between the pages, online, and in the real world, you’ll find evidence of their interaction, ephemera that brings this tale vividly to life.

This trailer would definitely fit into that.
