Showtime’s psychosexual horror drama, Penny Dreadful, sounds like a villainous version of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Hopefully, the series will be a damn site better than the dreadful LXG movie.
Some of literature’s most terrifying characters, including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, and iconic figures from the novel Dracula, are lurking in the darkest corners of Victorian London. “PENNY DREADFUL” is a frightening psychological thriller that weaves together these classic horror origin stories into a new adult drama.
The series will weave together the origins of literary horror characters, such as Victor Frankenstein, Frankenstein’s monster, Dorian Gray, and Count Dracula, as they grapple with their monstrous alienation in Victorian London.
The show stars Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, Billie Piper, Rory Kinnear, Timothy Dalton, Reeve Carney and Harry Treadway.
The show is created, written, and executive produced by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan (Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator) and executive produced by Oscar winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall).
Harnett plays Ethan Chandler, a charming, brash, daring man of action who is unafraid of violence and more complicated than he likes to admit. As you can see in the images below, he seems to be pretending to be a sharp shooting cowboy in a travelling show (hence the wig).
