With Sony Pictures Entertainment now in production in New York on The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, slated for release on May 2, 2014, the studio is planting its flag on two future release dates for one of the most successful franchises in studio history, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, Chairman, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures. The next two films in the story of Peter Parker will be released on June 10, 2016, and on May 4, 2018, respectively.

Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, “Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, and based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are the producers. The executive producers are E. Bennett Walsh, Stan Lee, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci.

The Amazing Spider-Man took in over $750 million at the worldwide box office last year.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has released the first clip from his directorial debut, Jon Don. The clip also features Scarlett Johansson, Glenne Headly & Tony Danza.

Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old-fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to “pull” a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn’t compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old-fashioned girl. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she’s determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old-fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Don Jon is due out in October.

Lots of new footage in this trailer for Riddick. Once again it is all a bit spoilery.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.
The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

The film also stars Karl Urban, Katee Sackhoff, David Bautista, Jordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Bokeem Woodbine, Raoul Trujillo, and Nolan Gerard Funk.

Riddick is out on 6th September.

Carol Solomon, a young female voice coach, joins the all-male race to land the white-hot new trailer of a blockbuster trilogy, and with it lay claim to the legendary trailer catchphrase “In a world .” In doing so, she must battle ingrained industry sexism, ridiculously self-important competitors and even her own father, Sam Sotto, a legendary voice-over artist who can’t bring himself to recognize his daughter’s talent.

The film stars Lake Bell, Fred Melamed Ken Marino, Rob Corddry, Lucy Punch, Nick Offerman, Michaela Watkins, Eva Longoria and Demetri Martin.

Man of Steel opened last week and is currently doing rather well at the box office. It is currently #1 in every location it has opened in across the world, and with an international gross of $71.6 million from 24 markets, it now has a worldwide total of $196.7 million.

As it is doing well it looks like Warner Bros. will be pushing for a Superman sequel and, the long in development, Justice League movie.

“It’s more than just a franchise for us, it really opens up the door to do combinations of the DC Comics characters,” said Dan Fellman, Warner’s president of domestic distribution, to The Wall Street Journal. “We can build them up like Marvel did and benefit from the history of DC.”

They now have the Man of Steel sequel on fast track for release as soon as 2014, said knowledgeable people close to the studio.

The sources also say the Justice League movie could come out as soon as 2015.

While I loved Man of Steel I would rather they took their time making the sequel instead of rushing ahead. Of course, it is all down to money and they would want to strike while the iron is hot.

In Compulsion, Saffron (Carrie-Anne Moss) is elegant, though she doesn’t emphasize the fact. A former child star, she’s emaciated, brilliant, excoriating and contemptuous of herself and the world. Amy (Heather Graham) is her neighbor, a chef, who is newly separated. She remains undaunted and is able to remold her mind and her body at will just like her surroundings. She dreams of helming her own Food Channel show and of being a celebrity like the ones she’s always so admired, such as the woman she discovers is actually living across the hall from her. She’s fearless and so in a way is her neighbor. It’s just that the chef fears nothing in life while her neighbor fears nothing about death.

Written by Floyd Byars (Masterminds) and directed by Egidio Coccimiglio (Imaginary Grace). Compulsion also stars Kevin Dillon and Joe Mantegna.

Due out on June 21st.

Rock legends Status Quo are finishing their 50 Year Celebration tour. They come off stage to thunderous applause and slip away for a quiet drink. Suspecting a bigger party is going on in the back bar, Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt slip through security and gate crash the event. They witness a gambling ring forcing competitors to play Russian Roulette. The winner gets dinner. The other loses their head.

Parfitt and Rossi grab evidence of the murder and create a commotion so they can get away. Wilson (Jon Lovitz – Happiness, The Wedding Singer, Friends), the lead gangster, catches sight of them and orders their heads.

Parfitt and Rossi are on the run. Simon (Craig Fairbrass – Cliff Hanger, Rise of The Footsoldier), their manager, and Caroline (Laura Aikman – Keith lemon Movie, Freight, Blood Monkey etc), a cheeky intern, are tasked with keeping the press in the dark while protecting Status Quo.

An ambitious reporter, Dave (Matt Kennard – Freight, BBC TV Doctors), senses there is a story. Caroline holds him off as long as possible, but as the situation escalates, enlists his help.

Using sea-planes, speed boats, jet skis, golf carts and scuba gear, Status Quo and their entourage evade capture and manage to leave paradise.

I am not sure what has happened to my taste filter, but this actually looks cheesily good / bad and part of me wants to see it.
